Terracotta Vases at Villa Cimbrone
Pastel
11 x 14
For purchase information, please e-mail me at joelle.feldman@gmail.com

When you first enter Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, you are greeted with beautiful eighteenth century terracotta "vases" that line the path to the Avenue of Immensity. It is a beautiful site! I love to paint old pots and enjoy capturing their weathered texture and age using multiple layers of similar color values; in this case purple/blue, yellows and a little bit of green. I have enjoyed doing multiple paintings of pots including the Lunafor urn "Sitting Tall at Boothbay Gardens" featured on my web site.

The Amalfi coast abounds with small villages tucked into the hill sides. One is more picturesque than the next. On the way back from a long walk up hill, this cluster of buildings from Ravello came into view in the glowing late afternoon light.

"Morning Grove at Villa Cimbrone"

Morning Grove at Villa Cimbrone
Pastel
11 x 13
For purchase information, please e-mail me at joelle.feldman@gmail.com

I first did the quick watercolor and value study of this grove at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, Italy, during a workshop with Gail Browne. A short morning shower had just passed through and the scene was fresh and filled with soft morning light. I wanted to recapture this great scene using a limited color palette that would evoke the beauty and sense of place of this magnificent grove.
Gail Browne organizes wonderful and instructive painting trips on the Amalfi coast. If interested in future Italy workshop information, contact Gail here.

"Early spring bouquet"

Early spring bouquet
8 x 8 Pastel
For purchase information, please email me at joelle.feldman@gmail.com

I have several of these metal containers begging to be filled with spring flowers. Forsythia now, lilacs next... I enjoy painting flower subjects on black sanded pastel paper. I have done several paintings in this style such as the Little Red Vase and other paintings for this year's Valentine Day's series. I like the the texture and the hint of black peeking through.

Spring came in a couple of weeks early this year in New England. Forsythia is usually the first burst of color announcing spring. I saw this cluster while taking a walk close to my house and needed to capture this lovely spring day.

"Ice Cream or Pie?"

Ice Cream or Pie?
8 x 8 Pastel

This subject was chosen by Kitty Clark for our painters' group April exercise. I like the subject a lot (who doesn't like strawberries? And the green colander is wonderful!). So, I did both a pastel and an oil version of it. The oil needs a couple of little adjustments and will be posted shortly. Now, what to do with the strawberries? Make ice cream or a pie?

"Quiet September in Vinalhaven"

Quiet September in Vinalhaven
Oil 6 x 6
Sold

In September, most of the tourists are gone from Vinalhaven and the fishermen are still out to sea. The town is delightfully quiet and there are only a few lobster traps in sight. A great time of year to walk around on the waterfront and enjoy the scenery.

"Storage Sheds in Vinalhaven"

Storage Sheds in Vinalhaven
8 x 10 Oil
Sold

Vinalhaven is a beautiful working fishing town located in the Fox Islands in Knox County, Maine. It is well known to the artist community as inspiration abounds all over the island. I particularly like the old fishing storage buildings in town. These buildings are a common landscape along the coast of Maine. This painting is the first in a series of Maine fishing buildings.
