"Ice Cream or Pie?"

Ice Cream or Pie?
8 x 8 Pastel

This subject was chosen by Kitty Clark for our painters' group April exercise. I like the subject a lot (who doesn't like strawberries? And the green colander is wonderful!). So, I did both a pastel and an oil version of it. The oil needs a couple of little adjustments and will be posted shortly. Now, what to do with the strawberries? Make ice cream or a pie?

"Quiet September in Vinalhaven"

Quiet September in Vinalhaven
Oil 6 x 6
Sold

In September, most of the tourists are gone from Vinalhaven and the fishermen are still out to sea. The town is delightfully quiet and there are only a few lobster traps in sight. A great time of year to walk around on the waterfront and enjoy the scenery.

"Storage Sheds in Vinalhaven"

Storage Sheds in Vinalhaven
8 x 10 Oil
Sold

Vinalhaven is a beautiful working fishing town located in the Fox Islands in Knox County, Maine. It is well known to the artist community as inspiration abounds all over the island. I particularly like the old fishing storage buildings in town. These buildings are a common landscape along the coast of Maine. This painting is the first in a series of Maine fishing buildings.

I chose this scene from southern France as this month subject for a group of artists who is working on a new painting challenge blog. We are doing a few paintings and taking turns managing the blog for practice before it becomes public. This is my rendition of the scene. Check out my friend Bobbi Heath's version on her blog.

"Happy Cyclamen"

Happy Cyclamen
8 x 8 Oil on paper
For purchase information, please email me at joelle.feldman@gmail.com

For several years, this cyclamen has looked like it had died forever after spring. I have resisted the temptation to get rid of it "just in case" and for the last five years, it has rewarded me with its beautiful blooms every February.
I started the painting as a pastel on sanded paper. I was not happy with the pastel results and decided to experiment using oil paint on the same paper. I liked the way the paint "glided" over the paper.

Another winter scene from New England before I switch back to painting spring and warmer weather subjects. The tail end of winter always seems to last forever and I can't wait for the first colorful signs and inspiration of the new season.

"Winter at Thomas Point Beach"

Winter at Thomas Point Beach
6 x 6 Oil
For purchase information, please e-mail me at joelle.feldman@gmail.com
Paypal available

The days are getting longer but winter is still here in New England. Scenes like this one are an inspiration this time of year. I did this scene in a painting and blogging class taught by Bobbi Heath at River Arts , the Art Center in Damariscotta, Maine. The focus was on creating a quick, effective composition for daily paintings.
Look for future offerings of Bobbi's class, which was excellent.
