Girls' Night Out

Girls' Night Out
Pastel 8 x 10
Sold

We have been painting eggplants in our pastel class at NOA Gallery. My two new students Ashley and Yoshie inspired me to use a palette I don't normally use.

At our "Gallery Conversations" event last Saturday at the Yarmouth Gallery, we were discussing how people love to know the story behind a painting. I couldn't come up with a name for this painting and my husband said: "Girls' Night Out" and made up his own story: Susie?... Susie... Get up!

Provencal Pots

Provencal Pots
6 x 6 pastel
Available for purchase through Olive and Branch

I am usually spending time in Provence this time of year. I won't be going there again until next year. Feeling somewhat nostalgic, I painted my provencal pots which spend their own summer in my garden.

If you enjoy all things from Provence, check Olive and Branch  for great French accessories and gifts for the home.

I am on a tajine kick: Cooking it, eating it and painting it. Life is good!

This beautifully decorated tajine was a gift from my sister and I bought the two miniature ones at an outdoor market in the town of Uzes in Provence. I used the small ones for extra condiments.

Tajine (or tagine) is a North African dish which is named after the special pot in which it is cooked. I own several of these beautiful vessels and I love to serve this wonderful dish directly from the pot. There are many variations of this slow-cooked stew and I can't wait to try Sarah Commerford's "chicken and preserved lemons and olives" recipe. Check out Sarah's blog for fun and entertaining reading and great recipes from around the world!

Going Bananas

Going Bananas
Pastel 8 x 8 - Sold

It's March. There is still plenty of snow on the ground and it is cold... very cold. This winter is lasting too long and being cooped up in the house is enough to drive anyone bananas! Painting them is a better alternative.

Provencal Totes

Provencal Totes
Oil 8 x 10
Sold

The colorful and lively markets of Provence are world famous and have been the source of many publications. All over Provence, towns and villages host markets on different days of the week and I always seek them out. As a food lover, I marvel at the produce and meat displays, the colors, the smells and the activity. Temptation is great and what better way to carry your purchases than a colorful shopping tote known as "cabas" that you can buy right there at the market?

Have you ever had white radishes? I bought these on impulse at the farmers' market in Brunswick, Maine just because of their magenta color inside. They turned out to be very delicious, simply served with fresh bread and butter and a pinch of salt!

New Little Red Kettle

New Little Red Kettle
Pastel

Whenever my husband purchases anything new for the house, it doesn't usually pass the test (mine) and ends up getting returned! However, this new little red kettle he bought to replace our old one is a keeper!
